The Nikon D850 made a huge splash when it became available. Plenty of reviews tout it as the best Nikon DSLR ever made, and it's easy to see why. This powerful full-frame camera blends speed and performance with advanced movie features, and is ready to take on whatever you want to throw at it.
Exceptional performance and speed
The combined power of the D850's 45.7-megapixel backside-illuminated full-frame sensor — Nikon's first ever — and EXPEED 5 image processor results in high-quality images with reduced noise and faithful color rendering. With its substantial autofocus and processing power, the D850 can capture up to 200 images (RAW or JPEG) in a single burst, at a rate of seven frames per second.
A dedicated processor for fast, accurate autofocus
The D850 uses the same advanced autofocus system as the flagship D5. A second processor makes this Nikon's fastest and most accurate autofocus system yet. This next-generation AF system operates in near-darkness (-4 EV).
Selectable autofocus modes for pinpoint accuracy
An impressive 153 autofocus points (with 55 selectable points) let you stay locked on target, even when your subject is on the move. Group-Area autofocus mode recognizes small groups of AF points as a single point, for enhanced tracking of smaller details like facial expressions. 3D Focus Tracking ensures accurate focusing no matter the subject's location on the image plane.
4K movies bring your vision to life in stunning Ultra High Definition
The D850 records 4K movies at rates of up to 30 frames per second, using the full width and resolution of the camera's sensor. The large sensor allows for shooting with no crop factor using any full-frame Nikkor lens, and output is clean even at higher ISOs.
You can also create in-camera 4K time-lapse movies from consecutive still shots. Use Silent Live View Mode to bypass the mechanical shutter and mirror movement and you'll conserve battery life and save thousands of shutter cycles, extending the life of your camera. Exposure Smoothing helps to keep your exposures consistent for smoother transitions between frames.
Pro-level movie features
The D850 is a serious multimedia machine with features to make videographers take notice. Nikon's Flat Picture Control lets you shoot with post-processing in mind, while Zebra Stripes help you monitor the brightness of a given scene. You can also record simultaneously to the camera's memory cards and to an external recorder via the camera's HDMI output.
Built-in Electronic Vibration Reduction makes it easier to avoid camera shake, even when recording on foot. The D850's power aperture function gives you smooth exposure transitions when moving from bright to dark areas, and Auto ISO in manual exposure mode works to maintain consistent brightness in changing light. Whether you use the D850's built-in stereo mic or connect an optional external microphone, audio levels can be adjusted in 20 increments. You can also adjust volume when monitoring audio recording through the camera's headphone jack.
